Brake light on dashboard - should I worry?

Post by aslives »

I've got a 1979 / 2000 in decent shape and recently the brake light has been coming on. I checked the brake fluid and its over the 50% line by a good margin and the hand brake is not on.

Started about a week ago - so it once or twice, now its on 75% of the time when I'm driving. Only other thing I noticed is that the car is running a bit on the hot side, though probably unrelated.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Unplug the wires on the cap, if the light goes out it's float related if not it's wiring Inside the car.

common issue is a hand brake handle that doesn't keep the switch depressed. Alot of those handles are tweaked to the left slightly from pulling them on with lots of force

There's a small button type switch that is moulded in the resting position of the handbrake lever. If you look under the handbrake lever with the lever in the up or on position you will see it just behind where the handle would rest. Push that button, if the light goes out, that's your problem.
