When i ran a wire directly from my starter to the spare terminal on my IS, while running the new wire began to melt. I was under the impression i could use any post..This is an original starter and i ran a new wire on the post below the red wire (8 o'clock).
Another issue i am having is fuse 10 continues to blow. I am in the process of isolating the problem. The out appears to be the voltage regulator and the in's appear to be the fan switches. I disconnected the fan switch relay and its still blowing. Maybe its my VR kicking power back?
Lastly, every so second or third startup my ignition coil continues to receive power with the key out.
Any thoughts? And i thought body work was tough!

I should also mention this is an aftermarket switch.

Re: BWF issue and other electrical gremlins
Without knowing what terminal you connected the new wire to I suspect that it was a position that receives power in both the start and run position (since all but the starter position do that). The starter generally only gets power in the start position.
Guessing again - but if you were supplying power to the starter continuously you were probably drawing a lot of current for a long time. Generally the wire to the starter provides a lot of current for a short time. Long time would result in higher temperatures and melted insulation.
Was your starter running continuously?

Yes, the starter ran continuously. Even when I shut off the engine, it was still running. I installed the new wire to the post right under the red wire in the picture that appears to have black wire running into it.
