Glad to have found a Fiat enthusiast forum, looking forward to gathering as much information as possible. Helping a family member revive a 1981 Spider 2000 that has a lot of sentimental value to him. 108k on the clock.
Car runs and he enjoys driving it daily. It's suffering from the rough idle problem and after some reading it seems I should check his AFM door movement range. If that seems to be ok presume the next step would be the injectors? Car has recently had some general maintenance done, plugs, seals, gaskets, hoses, t-stat etc.
I believe after we resolve the idle issue I will be tackling the suspension as all shocks seem to be blown. Should I knock out control arms, bushings, etc while were at it? What are the popular suspension set ups for this platform? OEM type replacements?
Goal of the build is reliability with a bump in over all performance. If his wife is ever comfortable driving the car I have succeeded.

Yes could be the Afm, but could be other things as well. There is a good step by step Tune Up procedure for Bosch fuel injection system in the forum by Brad Artigue. It is in this thread http://fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php ... ue#p208421
Regarding the rough idle, if it's only when cold, it likely the AAR (Auxiliary air regulator). It's takes air around (bypasses) the throttle plate to raise the idle speed until the engine gets up to temperature. You can find some good posts about the auxiliary air regulator if you search the posts.
If it idles rough all the time, it could be an air leak in one of the hoses. Check the large air hose especially the underside of the small tube that branches off to the AAR.
Has it been sitting for years? If so cleaning the injectors wouldn't be a bad idea, but some simpler checks like above may be an easier place to start.
It can be a journey, so let us know what you find.

Will follow tune up procedure, check AAR, service injectors, and check hose. Will follow up on the results and/or if I run in to any issues. Feedback and welcome is appreciated!!
