Stalling problem
Stalling problem
My lovely 77 124 doesn't want to run for me. It stalls as soon as I let off the throttle. Except, it sometimes will idle, but very high when its first started. I took it to a local shop and they say the intake manifold gasket is causing the problem. I have asked around, and no one else seems to think that would be enough to cause the total failure I am experiencing. Any other suggestions??

Re: Stalling problem
I would check all the vacuum lines for leaks. Also check that the carb is not leaking around the mounting base. You can spray carb cleaner at these points, if there is a vacuum leak, your engine will rev up when the carb cleaner is sprayed on it.
Same goes for the intake manifold, because it sounds like a vacuum leak and it could be there.

Re: Stalling problem
Sounds reasonable enough. It doesn't take that much air to mess things up. Get some carburetor cleaner and, with the car running, spray it around the manifold gasket. If the motor speed changes you've found your leak. Do the same around the carb base, etc., to identify other leaks.
