Cigarette Lighter Fuse

Post by Dougieb »

Hi all,
The PO of my car cut out the inline fuse to the cigarette lighter.
I would like to get it working to use as a phone charger/GPS/etc.

What amperage is the fuse? 16A or 8A?
I assume Radio Shack or any inline fuse holder will work.
Any suggestions on when/where/what type to get?

Thanks,
Dougieb

For my 81 its an 8 amp in line fuse red wire and hot all the time. I would purchase a new 12 volt power receptacle and install it under the dash. I installed one just to the right of the center console. A power receptacle does not have the parts in it that push the cigar lighter out when it has heated up. So it would be new and by design more reliable than the existing cigar lighter.

+1 on getting a new one. maybe there was a reason the PO cut it out. could be an issue with the cig lighter.

You know, that just makes too much sense.
I think I will wire a seperate power point in but I just wat to see if I can get the original one to work.
I will let you know how it turns out.
Thanks.
