Wipers move super fast now!:)

Post by Fiat88 »

Recently I just got my car running again in 8 months. When I first started it, I had a problem with the wiper linkage binding up or scraping against the cowl and blowing the fuse everytime I started the car up and ran the wipers. So after figuring out the wiper was the cause of the blown fuse, I made sure to lube the linkage with some wd-40 and graphite mixed together and applied with a toothbrush to each linkage joint. I worked the linkage back and fourth several times, pushing it at each end as far as it could go and reinstalled it. Now the wipers feel like their on speed!

Not sure what was the biggest help but:
Added a 1 gauge batter cable over the winter, cleaned the fuse box contacts, and lubed the wiper linkage, brown wire surgery. Just some suggestions.

All of the above probably helped. On Xweb there's a thread about adding relays to the high and low speed circuits that cured my slow wipers when nothing else would.

Reviving a very old thread, but is this a common reason to blow a wiper fuse? The wipers in my Coupe never caused any problems until now, but today they blew the fuse after a few sweeps of the windshield. Replaced the fuse, and it blew after half a sweep. They are slowish, but no slower than previously. I'll try cleaning and lubing them, but is there anything else on that circuit which might also be suspect? It seems to also be the circuit for the blower motor (but that was off).

Very interesting to lose your wipers in a downpour on a curvy mountain road. :o
