Pininfarina Azzura Spider interior dome lighting

Post by laforzaland »

I am hoping that someone can give me an idea on how to repair a non-functioning interior "dome" light in my 1985 Pininfarina Azzura Spider.

This is what is occurring: It appears that if you want the interior light to turn on you have the option to press one side of the interior light lens (there is a small divot in the lens on one side). When I press this, I cannot feel any mechanical "switch" clicking or engaging. And, of course, the light does not turn on.

I have taken the interior light out and disassembled it to determine if something broke. In looking at the parts that in the light housing, there is a triangular piece that swivels to one side or the other. This piece essentially is the switch that turns on the full-time light circuit or switches back to the door-open lighting circuit.

Can anyone with a similar model light tell me how these mechanical pieces function to control the triangular switch?

WAG, does the end of the spring fit against (into the V) of the pivoting contacts?

After a little finagling, it was able to figure it out!

There were two loose pieces that weren't secured to any other piece (white plastic pieces riveted together and the spring). The key factor was to place the loose white plastic riveted piece on the bottom of the black light housing so the little white "prong" stuck out of the bottom of the black housing.

After I had this in place I could see how if I pushed that piece into the stationary triangular piece it would move the switch! I realized that placing the spring in between the moveable piece and the black light housing would return the moveable piece back to its original position to start over. The problem... I only had one spring (due to a less-than-intelligent previous owner). I made another spring that had comparable tension as the original and put them both in place. You can see in the picture that one spring is black and one is silver.

The hinged "fingers" (cream piece attached to the lens) fits into channels of the moveable piece. When the lens is pressed, the finger of the piece attached to the lens pushes the moveable piece into the stationary "triangular" piece to activate the switch. It now works very well!

Now, on to troubleshoot the door (ground) switches to get the interior lights to turn on when the doors open!
