Temperature Sending Unit Wire

Post by NSFIAT »

Hi everyone - hopefully this is an easy one . . .

After pulling back a sleeve covering the wire running to the rear temperature sending unit (red connector, nestled between the spark plugs at the rear of the engine bay) I noticed some bad fraying, etc. It looks like someone had tried to hide it at some point. Does anyone know the correct gauge of this wire? I'd like to cut off the damaged piece and solder a new connection.

If you GOOGLE 16G temp sensor you will see tons of links suggesting/using 16G wires

FYI, my 78 temp gauge kept showing hot when the engine wasn't. I know because I used a heat indicating gun on it. Come to find out after reading several post on this subject, that the previous owner or someone had put the wrong wire on the wrong sensor. Can not remember how far back the post was but it really helped me solve the problem.

The wire has been successfully patched and everything cleaned up. In my head I've managed to increase the HP . . . :D
