Which is proper timing mark

Post by rdrtech »

Hey all,

I just replaced the defective vacuum advance, distributor cap and rotor on my 1980 FI 2000 spider and was going to set the timing according to the manual I have. Its diagram showing the timing mark is at: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k266/ ... GP0908.jpg

My Spider has very different marks as shown in the picture below;

My question is - which mark on the second picture (just below the bolt that is in focus ) is 0 and which is 10 degrees? Normally the largest one would be 0 degrees but I wish to confirm this with someone else.

BTW look at this picture for why I also changed my distributor cap;

Thanks for any assistance,

Carl

in the second pic, O is the top pointer. The cap has seen better days. How are the spark plug wires?

Mark,
Thanks for the quick reply. I had two bad wires. I replaced all the wires as well.

My next task is changing the front wheel bearings and rebuilding the front calipers while I have the calipers off. They are forecasting rain for this weekend so that will give me a rest from all the yard-work that needs getting done this time of year. Maybe I'll get some grease under my fingernails instead of fence stain ;)

if you're rebuilding the calipers, I suggest you replace the brake hoses also.
