Front shock tower bump stop question

Post by SteveLandry »

In cleaning 44 years of dirt out of the front bump stop perches, I see an indentation into the outside of the shock tower. Both sides seem more or less the same, with some rust but no obvious cancer. My question is, is the inside of this dirt-catcher supposed to have the indentation or is it supposed to be a 'flat' continuation of the shock tower outside curve? I hope this makes sense....

Steve,

Better try a picture. You know, a 1000 words and all that.

I figured it out. After sandblasting the inside of the mounts, the indentations are supposed to be there. Perhaps the rubber bumpers were originally designed as bolt-on and the space was needed for washer and nut.
