hello all
my spider is running fine but there is a slight problem
the car idles at about 1500 rpm´s and i can´t get it lower.
the adjustment screw is loose so the gas intake valve is shut
and it still idles at 1500 rpm
this evening i adjusted the timing and took it for a drive.
It still idles too high but the topspeed is 175 kmh on gps
at 80 kmh in fifth gear the rpm´s are about 4000
is this normal?
the car is running fine and handles well but is a bit thirsty
last time i drove 250 km on 32 liters of gas, but i have to say that sometimes my right foot is a bit heavy
one question left on the timing. There are three points on the marker by the crankshaft pulley top is 0 degrees
middle is 5 degrees and lower is 10 degrees .do i have to put it on 0,5,or 10 with the stroboscoop lamp
i tought it was at 10 degrees but then the rpm's are even higher
a lot of questions but hope someone can help
edit : forgot to mention that its a 1983 cs0 2000ie
high rpm´s
Re: high rpm´s
on an FI car, the throttle stop screw should just barely touch the lever. It's not to be used for setting idle speed, only to prevent the throttle plate from shutting tight and getting stuck as the engine cools down. Is the cable adjust so there is some slack? After that, check for air leaks around the intake boot or throttle body. Next, check to see if the aux air valve has failed in the open position.
10 btdc is a good setting for performance. 4k in fifth gear at 70mph is about right.

Brad Artigue ,a Fiat expert ,has a F.I. guide that I found really helpful. It takes you step by step thru a fuel inj. ''tune-up''.The engine has to run thru 2 heat cycles to properly set the idle.Mine also idled very high until I followed his guide and got it set right.Download it at http://www.artigue.com/fiat

Re: high rpm´s
Idling at 1500 RPM and no lower = big air leak somewhere.
Running like this may burn a plug and ruin a valve. I'd fix it before running around too much.
You said: "the adjustment screw is loose so the gas intake valve is shut and it still idles at 1500 rpm"
Which doesn't make sense. There is no screw you can turn and nothing called a gas intake valve. The air supply is a sealed system and needs to remain that way, otherwise the FI system will not work properly.
I wrote a bunch of information here:

Have fun, great car.
