spark issues

Post by fiesta54 »

Hey so my ignition switch is beginning to go bad. I have already had to bypass the switch for fuel and now I get spark in run but not in crank. I have a 75 124 and was wondering if anyone knew which wire needs to be jumped to fix this? Thanks!

On my '72, terminal #50 is the starter. Should be Red wire in your car.

Thank you! Although I've realized I dont really know what I am doing. I was told to jump the wire to get spark. But I am not sure how to do what and still have the spark stop when I turn the car off. Should I just splice it in to switched power somewhere as a temporary fix?

Some of the wires in the ignition switch are not fused anywhere along their length. An incorrect connection can easily start a fire. If you're not sure of your capabilities to re-wire the Fiat starting system, maybe you'd be better off simply replacing the ignition switch. IAP has an informative video on their site describing this procedure. If a new switch is out of the question, there are probably some salvage yards in the Richmond area containing Spiders. If you are slightly handy, you can "sorta/kinda" rebuild your ignition switch by removing the C-clip and drilling out the rivets holding the thing together. The burned contacts can be scuffed clean, and the switch re-assembled with slender machine screws and nuts.
