Can I just apply 12v right to the horn in order to test it?
Horn is not working. Pressing the horn button produces a clicking sound like a relay from under the dash, but no horn.
car is a 1983.

Re: horn question?
Is yours an electric horn? Earlier cars came with air horns. Either way, if you apply 12V to the horn directly it should confirm if it works. If it does, then trace the existing cables back to the relay (maybe in the engine bay, or in the cabin in later models?) and apply voltage to the relay to see if the horn works.

Re: horn question?
If you have the air horns, pop the plastic oil cap on the top and drip some clean motor oil into the compressor. Mine was (probably) surface rusted first time, cause it ground a little with no sound. Added some oil, jumpered the compressor leads to 12 V, and nice, loud sound.

Re: horn question?
Sad to say I do not know which style of horn it is. I will investigate. Thanks for the replies.
Re: horn question?
I have two electric horns. Neither were working. After pulling them and cleaning the contacts, one now works, the other is still dead. I'll have to open that one up and see what's going on.
