Turn signal switch removal 84 Pinanfarina

Post by vdesigner99 »

Can anybody advise on how to remove the steering column switch cluster? I don't want to break anything, I see springs. I have a defective right turn signal and I believe its at the switch, can this be repaired or do I have to replace? I traced the possible defect to the switch. I do have both hazard L-R working so it must be this switch at the column. I also discovered that the rear light cluster circuit boards have riveted light sockets on the PCB so I did have intermittent contact issues. I decided to clean and solder at all possible points.

Thanks! :)

You can get to the arm cluster on the steering column by removing the 4 screws on the bottom side of the 2 piece plastic cover. If you need to pull the steering wheel, snap off the horn button...the outer ring be popped off with you finger nails or a thin flat screwdriver. a large spring will fall out when the button is removed. remove the big nut (22mm I think) and wiggle the wheel off the spines. There is a plastic piece that will come off. pay attention to how it is assembled. The arm assembly is held on with a clamp at the base. just loosen the clamp and slide off. The wiring harness should have 2 plug-ins under the dash. The points for the turn signals are not easy to get to, but can be cleaned without removing the cluster.

Thanks azruss, I was able to remove the steering switches. But after ohm'ing out the turn signal switch not sure its defective. I get continuity on both left and right signals. Gotta check the flasher unit next. I'm using a 1982 wiring diagram, but it shows only three wires from the turn swich and I see 4 on mine?
On another note I discovered that I'm only getting 11.82 volts to the battery. "one thing leads to another".

Thanks!

After removing and checking and cleaning all bulbs, I got the driver side signals to work but the dash turn indicator only flashed on the right signals. I was at autozone and took a chance a a 12v 40a flasher relay. YES! all lights work correct finally.

on to next project....
