All new hoses and lines?

Post by NickSpider »

Ok I was working on the fiat today. Pulled the fuel tank, what a pain in the ass, tank was full of varnish and was getting me high. Took the tank and the radiator to a radiator shop, they are going to reline the tank (if possible or I may be buying a new one) and put a new neck and drain plug on the radiator for me.

After examining all the fuel hoses and lines under the hood, they will all need to be replaced. Where is the best place to buy new fuel hoses and other hoses for under the hood? The basic fiat parts stores, bruce's...vicks....etc. want an arm and a leg for what appears to be basic rubber hoses.

Anyone have a place I can order bulk hoses and cut it to length? Also what sizes are the fuel lines, my hoses are completely corroded and i couldnt get a goood measurement?

I would go with our normal Fiat parts vendors when you can to make sure you get the correct parts for your vehicle. The fuel injection hoses are going to be more expensive than for carburated cars since they're higher pressure and by the prices in my catalog, they're right in line with places like Advance Auto.

Mine is carburated so I suppose that is good, what catalog are you using? The other part of the problem is I dont know what to call half the hoses under the hood. Granted the fuel lines are pretty straightforward, with the exception of some black part in the left rear fender well that has all the fuel lines going to it, not quite sure what it is, I replaced the fuel pump (electric) and the inline fuel filter, but i cant find the part number or anything for the black thing. Any ideas what it is or does?

On the hoses i need for sure are fuel lines, brake hoses, overflow for the radiator, and then there are a bunch of other hoses that are dry rotted that I have no idea what they go to, thats why I was considering bulk line that I could cut to length.

Sorry, with an electric pump, I just assumed you had FI. What year is your car? I believe the thing on the left rear fender you are referring to is the vapor/liquid separator. I don't recall hearing of anyone ever having to replace this.
As for the brake hoses, I would get them from the vendors. Vicks has the braided hose from the reservoirs to the m/c, and of course, the hoses to the calipers.

mine is a 1975 1800. I was planning on getting the braided brake hoses from Vicks, so far everything i have ordered has come from them. Two of the pulleys i need seem to not be in stock, i need to call and see if when they will be getting them.

As far as vicks catalog goes, I cant seem to find the alternator pulley separate from the alternator, is it possible to buy it separately?

I have just replaced mine ( it was 27 years old ) and the car doesn't have that 'gas/petrol smell' about it how !

So I think it made a difference.
