Hey Folks - it's on to the next and most pressing repair. This summer I got my 81 with power windows. I like them when they work, but the driver's side started to click and now only goes up a bit. The switch/electrical seem fine, so that isn't my first target. I got the door panel off and, of course, the mechanism/motor/cables and pulleys are inside the door.
* Can I open up the door? That is, can I unbolt and split the door open?
* Any advice? I was hoping to find a YouTube video, but no luck. I guess that's on my to try and make to help others, unless there is one our there.
Thanks, Jon
Help? Power Windows
Re: Help? Power Windows
OK, got it! Switches and motor were fine. Thought the cables might have gone of a bad cable or the door latch bar was binding...nope. I noticed that when I hit the switch for up, it went up a bit and the cables tightened. So I it the switch to go down and held it. Sure enough, the cables kept spinning to lower the already completely lowered window. The cable was slipping! Once the motor/cables was in fact completely down, I had my daughter hit the switch up a bit as I pulled the window. The window went up enough to access the part the attaches to the window. The screw was loose. I played a bit to make sure, tightened the screw and I'm still wearing a smile as my baseball team is well ahead.
Hope that helps someone. Now I'll either use gorilla duct tape or buy a vapor barrier to seal out the water. Then I'll use velcro or something to make the panel snug around the edges. Best of all, I get to drive this great ride.

if you want to open the door you'd have to cut the skin off. The motor and regulator come out through the cutouts on the inside of the door.

Another thing to check while you have it open is whether all the pulley's are rotating, they wear out and get an oval shape where the pin goes thru them. They are easy to replace but if left defective they add stress to the window motor.
