72 wiring and new hazard switches

Post by njoconnor »

Last Sunday, I posted about issues I was having with installing a new hazard switch to replace the original switch from my 72; see at : http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... 19&t=27844

If, like me, you're replacing this switch:

with this switch:

First thing you'll notice is that there is no V terminal for the 72's violet constant power wire from fuse 1 (with a co-crimped white wire running to the courtesy/interior light). Csaba kindly gave me a few minutes at the FFO last weekend, and recalled that the T terminal next to the stamped V slot was the correct terminal for the violet wire. We figured I could test the rest to get the sequence correct.

We were right, but it took a long time (see other post for my mistake(s) ). What I did not mention in the Sunday post was that I had hazards only with ignition on. Oh, well, I could live with that. But while reinstalling the steering column cover, ignition off, I bumped the turn signal lever, and to my surprise, had working turns! Meant I had the turn (grey) and hazard (red) wires switched. Dope smack. Fixed that, and now all is right with the circuit. So, to save someone else some time (and dope smacks), I cobbled up this photo with the correct wiring sequence with the newer switch:

Hope this helps someone else.

Great work Steve! Jim, I'm sorry. I misread your flasher post and thought you had the push button not the rocker switch. I shoulda asked.

Anyway credit Csaba as well. His time at FFO saved me a bunch of muttered comments.....
