no keys ingition switch removal?

Post by Mrbimmerdude »

so the ignition switch is faulty and I cant get it out of the column because I dont have the key.. I picked it up and had 3 ignition switches in the car and only one key .. till I had an off day and it had snapped in the wrong ignition, I had a 50/50 chance after figuring out the proper switch and removed one. (they were all wired up and tied to one another except the one that was in the column, id like to just have the one in the column but I cant figure out how to get it out with out removal and replacement of the whole steering column.. Please Help

there is a post here that states if you pop the thin metal cover off where the key goes into switch there is a key number located somewhere very readable. A good locksmith can then make a key. Not sure where that post is but it was fairly recent. Maybe someone else could find it for you.

Hi,
I recently posted about popping if the cover and locating the key code. You just need to pry the cover off of the ignition and there is a code printed underneath. Any locksmith should be able to make a key from that code. Also, recently heard that glove box or trunk key is same as ignition? So possible take one if those locks out and make a key from that. The code worked out fine for me! Good luck.

You can remove the steering column pretty easy. I think it is probably easier than drilling out the key/tumblers. Then bring the whole thing to a lock smith. They will remove the broken key and switch assembly for you. A few years ago I had a key made for a switch without a key and it was about $25.

I think I'm just going to end up drilling out the lock just because it was useless to me in the begining, it's not even wired in..
But I will be taking in the working one for new keys. And I didn't see any numbers either . Now it's all goofed up haha

Here is the link to my tale of woe, mine just stopped turning, even with the key. It was a whole lot of drilling but I finally got it out and replaced it with a new Lada switch. Good luck!
