I can push the lever in a tad or pull it out a tad, is that normal, because I lose contact. When I do this

My switch was very stiff and intermittent. For the heck of it I carefully opened it, cleaned the contacts added a little grease and now it works fine. It probably isn't worth the value of the switch to open but I like to tinker. I could push the bat in against the spring before and after I opened it. It would return against the pushing in by itself from the internal spring. If you have to pull the bat back out the spring might be broke. All the switches may not be the same in the way they are constructed. Mine came apart easy by inserting small screwdrivers in the sides and pulling the bat out.
