The 71 Sport Coupe I acquired from Mark had a broken nylon gear in the wiper motor.
I bought the 2 speed wiper motor from Auto Ricambi and had to do a little fabricating for it to fit in the wiper rack for the coupe. I had to slot the original mounting holes to allow the smaller bolt circle on the new motor to bolt up. I also had to do a little clearance grinding to allow the rack mount to clear the motor body.
I also had to make an actuator arm that bolts to the motor shaft as the stock unit would not work. I used some 1/8 flat mild steel for this. I welded a doubler on the end that the shaft goes thru to allow more surface area for the splines to drive. I was able to drive the stock connector pin from the stock arm, and then stake it into the hole in the driven end of the arm.
I now have working wipers except the park feature is not functional and the intermittent operation feature is not working properly. The wipers stop in whatever position they were in when I move the switch to the off position, and the intermittent feature does only a partial sweep of the screen before it pauses. The motor only makes a little less than 1/2 a revolution before it dwells and then goes on to another half revolution. This makes the stopping position totally random during intermittent operation.
The connector on the new motor matches the stock unit with the exception of one extra wire. Even to color codes almost kinda sorta match.
Is this a fix I can do with a little wiring swaparoo?
