Hi All,
Well I'm not a spider owner yet, but I've been putting in the research and diligence and am on the hunt for the right car currently.
A bit about myself: I work as a commercial real estate appraiser, hence the handle. Currently live in Huntington Beach, CA. Certified car nut, started out with an 88' Honda Prelude (all I could afford at 16!), graduated to a 99' Miata when I did my undergrad, went overseas for grad school and work, came back to an 05' Accord and now I'm driving a '13 GTI. It's great car, superb refinement, great on gas, awesome city pep, practical hatch back and has a decent a/c but it doesn't do much to melt the stress of work away. Enter the 124 spider! I'm burning to get back to the roots of a sports car and the pleasure of simply driving.
For the quick stuff I co-drive (more like threw money into) a 99' S2000 with my brother. We typically do auto-x events and have some track days earmarked. It handles great and is quick: about 220 whp and 160 ft-lbs torque with a mid-range focused power band via AEM EMS and full valve train to alleviate any 13k rpm mis shifts . Fun on the track but truly terrible every where else. For the really quick stuff, I go once a year to the Nurburgring to put in some time in a Suzuki Swift or Subaru BRZ track car. And for two wheels, I'm in the process of farkling an 02' KLR650 for some adventure riding.
I'm looking forward to spending some time on the forum and meeting folks in person. Seems like there's a supportive and friendly bunch here, hope I can contribute as well.
Regards,
Colin

Re: Greetings Everyone!
You have found the best forum for Fiat Spiders anywhere in the USA, if not the world. Plenty of tech help, advice, and friendly banter here.
I'd like to recommend attending the upcoming Best of France & Italy at Woodley Park in Van Nuys on Sunday November 02, 2014. There are always a few Spiders posted for sale and you will get to talk with the owners.

Hi SunnySideUp,
Thank you and I appreciate the link. Mark mentioned it in an e-mail, it's on the calender now. It'll be easy to spot me, look for the guy with the biggest, dumbest grin on his face!
Funny enough, I've never even sat in a Spider before - I hope to get the opportunity at the meet, or sometime before, to see how the ergo's are. I wonder if any members here will be selling their cars at the meet
Thanks again,
Colin

Re: Greetings Everyone!
I had to Google "farkling".
The Fiat 124 Spider is a great combination of vintage looks/feel, and the refinement of decent room, ride and reliability. Here's an oldie but goodie on what to look for: http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/200 ... uide1.html
I look forward to meeting you at BOFI. I'll be the one in a rental car
