I'm doing research and starting to look around for a Spider to purchase, maybe in the spring. When I was in college (early eighties) a friend had one and I remember being impressed at the time with how much room it had, as I'm a big guy. Time for a toy the wife and I can enjoy on weekends!

Welcome. Where in New England are you? There are a few of us around and there is a great Italian car gathering at the Larz Anderson Museum in August.

I looked at a lot of convertibles when I bought mine and agree that the Spider has about the most room of any two seat convertible I've driven.

Just had the last Cars and Coffee at The Larz yesterday. Took my daughter, who is learning a lot about cars and enjoying these outings. Met a fellow with an early 70's DeTomaso Longchamp (Tjaarda designed 1972), who happened to be a longtime family friend of Tom Tjaarda, worked with him for decades, and still keeps in touch with him regularly. Can't remember his name, but got pics of his car, (The car has a 351 Cleveland and he said it is a little slow because it is so heavy).

Also present was Rob Siegel, a regular writer for Road and Track mag, and author of the book "Memoirs of a Hack Mechanic"". He brought his near original Beemer 2002. We chatted for quite awhile about the Spider, Alfas and the Beemer and thoroughly enjoyed the morning! Now soon to hibernate until Spring.

Thanks!

I live in the Granite State just outside of Concord. I work in MA and have heard of the Larz. I'll have to make a point to get by there.

In answer to your first question...I'm 6'4", 275 lbs and fit just fine in my Spider. I had to put in a small (12") MOMO steering wheel so I could shift between first and second and use the clutch - but once done, no issues.
