interior light 1978 convertible

On the drivers side in the foot well above the left knee is a silver/grey pot metal socket. It appears to be a light socket. When I tested it for current it is always hot and I cannot find a switch for it. I thought it would be connected to the door jam push switch but it does not seem to control it. Any ideas? If it is a light socket why type of bulb does it use? thanks. psg
