Hey everyone!
Just bought my 1970 Fiat 124 spider 2 days ago, and I'm really excited to finally join the family. I'm a former automotive technician, and once worked at a shop that specialized in the classic italian cars and volvos, which is where my love for the small two seater with the top peeled off started. Looks like I bought myself quite a project, but hey what do you expect for a grand? In the first two days I've had a lot of really happy findings, 14x8 panasport wheels, ANSA muffler, long tune headers, drilled and slotted rotors; somebody put some love into this spider before it sat for ten years. Also found the motor has been swapped for what appears to be a 1756cc block and head (head #132AB9A, 4277590. Block #132AC1C, 4330156). Of course theres always some good with the bad, going to replace my first floor pan on the drivers side unless I want to roll flintstone style. I removed the cylinder head yesterday (I can never get over how much more fun it is to work on these simple cars) and found a large pit in the 4th cylinder exhaust valve, I'm thinking some detonation occurred.
Still trying to decide what my long term plan is. I'm leaning towards restoring the current motor, though I did have a dream of putting a mazda 12b rotary motor in. I'm living in the bay area, CA and look forward to sharing knowledge and hopefully going on an italian car cruise.
Cheers!
My first Fiat!

Re: My first Fiat!
Welcome! Always nice to hear of another early car being rescued. That 1800 is a sweet motor, I'd get it running and see how you like it.
