Replacement Radio For a 1969 124 Spider

The radio in my spider doesn't work. It's an aftermarket cassette radio with knob shafts that are 5 7/8" apart. It was installed by a previous owner. I would like to replace it with a simple, inexpensive radio with an AUX connector and the old style shaft mountings. Looking around, it seems that most of the new stuff has a different mounting systems but I don't want to modify the opening in my console. Any recommendations? I have a RetroSound system in my '72 Alfa GTV but it was $185 which is more than I want to spend. Besides, the clock is inaccurate.

Try cruthfield or classic car stereos, or vintage car radios.... Something like that in google. My son got one for his car. Looks the same when off, but is digital when turned on. Has different color displays to choose from, but I think it was a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks. I'm sure something will turn up. I really only need the unit so that I can plug in my MP3 player. Radio is only satisfying if you like commercials which I don't.

Search around for 1970's Blaupunkts that were knob-and-button but have an aux input. The aux was designed for adding an 8-track or cassette tape. There are instructions for making your own input to the thing.

Blaupunkt Köln and Frankfurt (old ones) might be suitable for you.

I would consider purchasing a radio with blue tooth feature as well as the aux jack. That way the music stored and the phone can be used with no hard wired connection. May not seem important right now but a few years from now MP3 type players might only be available with blue tooth.
I think most new radios come with new dress panels so any mods you make will be neatly covered and not show.

I plan to install a blue tooth amp that is hidden. it is operated from my i phone. So I will have no antenna or radio display. SoFlaFiat has a photo of one he mounted in his build under "Restoration Projects". No sure what I will use the unused panel space for.

Put a correct-for-your-year radio in there and rig it so it lights up w/o powering the speakers.
