1985.5 Pininfarina Spider rear storage shelves (doors)

Post by laforzaland »

I am in the process of restoring my 1985.5 Spider and am searching for replacement rear storage compartment doors (and hinges). Does anyone know of a source for these parts? I have the (warped) originals in my vehicle and will have a local shop duplicate the doors complete with the tan vinyl covering (to match the interior) and two-toned tan/brown loop carpet on top.

I see that Del Priore has a picture on their web site but does not offer these storage compartment doors for sale. These are the 2 rectangular pieces to the left of part #8 and above part #9 in the image below.

Would anyone else have interest in a set if I have these built? I'm not too sure how many '85.5 spiders are roaming the US that could use a new set. The originals are made of thin sheets of medium-density fiberboard over a foam panel core. I may have these built with a more durable material so that they better withstand the elements and have more strength.

My goal is to have these look as close to factory-specs as possible. At this time I do not have any costs to fabricate as I was hoping to locate a new set for sale.

those stock doors are really poorly made and the hinges are a joke. When we install our replacement rear inserts we have plywood doors made and use a piano hinge, then cover the doors with carpet. It makes a useful shelf and the new doors can be equipped with locks if need be.
