Pull the gearbox cover on the wiper motor. There is a return switch in there that activates by moving up on a small platform as the gear reaches the stop position. Sounds like that switch may be stuck.

The wiper switch n the column has 2 positions the first is delay and uses the relay, the second is continuous and does not use a relay. You could have too much friction in the mechanical linkage of the wiper assembly which is very common. Have you disassembled the wiper linkage freed, cleaned and lubricated them. Needs to be done periodically.

I have a question on that Lol, how do you remove the cowl to access the wiper motor and linkage? Is there a thread that explains it I have searched but I can't find it

There are 4-5 screws in front of "the wiper plate" just open them and pull the plate away.

thought I'd post just quickly here as it is somewhat related. I just installed a bypass relay to supply 12V (from the Starter motor lug which goes straight to the battery and alternator (via fuse of course)) to the input switch of the speed selector on the dash. Massive improvement, however the rest of the system need to be lubricated and run smoothly. He initially also had some weird operating issues which I figured was an incorrect wired motor.

I agree adding a wiper relay similar to what you have is a great improvement.

What kind of lubricant is best for the windshield wiper linkage? It rains a lot here in Western Oregon so I use my wipers a lot. WD40 washes off quickly and I have also not been happy with white lithium grease as it also washes off within a few months. How about marine grease (waterproof) ? Your recommendations please. :)

+1 on adding a relay.

I've been told that copper grease works well and the other I was thinking of was that plumbers grease you get when greasing up water taps (don't know if you guys call the faucets??) I think it may be Lithium??

Does anybody know what Fiat recommended (if they made a recommendation?)

Anything is better than the nothing that is usually on the rack. WD-40 is a joke of a lubricant...more of a water dispersant (WD!) I usually use a ceramic based grease (used on R/C gearboxes) as it tends to hold up...probably the same as marine grease.

Use grease specific for electrical use as it will not harden and turn into an insulator. Be mindful that some non-electrical grease will have a pressure additive that will not react well to aluminum or copper and promote a corrosive reaction.

I like to drill the out shaft housing with an 1/8 to form a lubricating hole. The hole is drilled so when on the car the hole is pointing up. Each spring when I get the car ready I remove the wiper arms the nuts holding the black dress pieces and the dress pieces and put a couple drops of 30 weight non detergent oil in. Then reassemble.
As for the grease I use Penns oil synthetic wheel bearing grease. It does not jell in the cold.

Hope this helps
