My first time!!

Post by 81autospider »

This Saturday will be my day to be united with my 82 Spider...I am looking towards getting behind the wheel and driving another convertible...my first one was a 94 Miata which I totaled the front end...I guess you could say I gave it a face lift  ...am really looking towards the Fiat though cuz it has an automatic trans., something I wish I had in the Miata...but won't miss those big Miata air dam headlights though  ...every time I turned on the head lights you could feel the car slow down a bit  ...I will be more careful this time and keep my distance cuz these cars are light and will just slide when you slam on the brakes...I will be back to let you know how the 136 mile drive went as this will be my first time driving a Spider.

Thanks for read 'n 8)

I remember the 85 mile drive home the day I picked up mine. Leaning forward with tense shoulders the whole way. But hey, it made it!
Good luck.

OK...I just got off the phone with the friend of which I bought the car from...he has owned it for 9 yrs. and maybe put 8K on the motor...I still don't know the mileage and have never driven it before...he has always had it covered and I have only seen bits and pieces by lifting the cover...he said he wouldn't have sold it to me if it wasn't a good car for the money...and yet when he drove it down to be smogged, the smog guy said it had passed as clean as a brand new car...my buddy said that he hated to see it go...but knows it's going to a good home...he also checked things out for me and said not one oil leak!...so I am anxious to get behind the wheel...he also told me that it's very quiet on the freeway...cool uh....I will be happy to post some pics as soon as I get my hands on 'er 8)

there is something special about driving in complete solitude, winding along a serene mountain road then tromping the gas pedal down completely shattering the silence with a crackling exhaust note that sends the wildlife scattering

My first time was a success...the temp gauge, the most important one to view on a car you don't know stayed between 185-192F at 70-75 mph...and yes I will say it is a quiet car on the freeway, minus the wind noise...hardly any exhaust noise at all...it was actually quite pleasant of a drive except for a couple of things...even though the seat are in good condition...they have zero butt support  ...I'm not a large man by all means, but the seats could use some support under the legs...it was if I was sitting on my grandma's kitchen chair...after some time I kept slipping down and had to keep readjusting...the steering felt light and nimble until you had to take a sharp corner at which the effort increased dramatically...all the mirrors were completely useless...2 PO's ago some one had swapped out the side mirrors for one that wouldn't stay put and just drooped...the rear view mirror shacked as if there was an earth quake...so I will have to at least fix the mirrors first...I was thinking of putting those round street rod mirrors on the window sash behind the vent window...I think those would look cool!...another item to fix is the Tach....he said it works sometime just tap on it he says  ...I did that several times and it still doesn't work...maybe just a loose wire...other then that the car seems to be reliable and runs really good  8)

Lucky you. My first time was definately not a success.
Oh! You're probably talking about the drive in the car.
Never mind.

Sounds like a pretty succesful first trip to me!As long as the engine ran good and stayed cool ,and she shifts fine you are ahead of the curve. All that other stuff is just cosmetic and you can fix at your own pace. Congrats on geeting her home!
