Hi from south carolina!
Hi from south carolina!
Hi everyone, I'm Doug Burdick from south Carolina. It's been awhile since I've been on this site. I've been busy with family and work. Now that I'm about to retire, I can get on with my projects. I'm now in the middle of restoring a '59 1200 cabriolet. I have to use a more modern TC engine because the PO swapped out the original motor for a Ford Kent engine. I would have stuck with that but it threw a rod at some point before I got it. So it will now have a 1800 TC with a Lancia Scorpion exhaust cam housing which doesn't have the mount for the distributor, as I'll be using a block mounted distributor that has been converted to electronic ignition. I'll use a five speed that came with the engine, both of which came from a '77 spider.

Hello Doug and welcome to the forum. That's quite the the artifact you have there. I believe your car originally came with an overhead valve engine that produced about 60 hp with a 0-60 mph clocked at 19 seconds. I don't think that there are other 1200 owners on this forum but there are surely lots of experts here who can help you debug any issues with with your twin-cam & 5 speed once you figure the logistics of the transplant. I'm sure you'll gain 7-9 seconds on your time as this car is almost 500 pounds lighter than a Spider. Happy retirement!

Thanks everyone! Yeah, she would have had a nice, 1200cc pushrod engine, I think. But someone tossed it for a ford kent engine. Now she sports a 1800TC I got from a '77 spider. I just have to have the drive shaft lengthened, and finish the front disc brake upgrade. I have a set of front discs and the spindles from a 1500, with more power I need more brakes!AriK wrote:Hello Doug and welcome to the forum. That's quite the the artifact you have there.
