Hello from Baton Rouge

Post by scubachris »

Hello y'all,

I just purchased a 82 Fiat Spider midnight blue with beige interior from a friend. Looking forward to getting it on the road( changing the timing belt) and doing a running restoration on it. And picking your brains on what I should and shouldn't do.

1) Any Fiat clubs worth joining?

2) What are must do to the car? I.E modernizations that you have found useful.

Looking forward to getting to know the site better.

PS I don't know how to post a picture here.

(Jay, I been with the RE Agent all day, we are listing the house for sale as of tomorrow!)

Welcome aboard! You will find plenty of knowledgeable and friendly people here.

Here is a thread on how to post pictures directly to the forum:

And here is another picture-posting thread:

This short instruction covers how to resize pictures so that they don’t get cut off at the right side:

Pictures can be easily and quickly resized using Windows.
You do not need to open the image file, therefore no image viewing software is needed.

1. First find where the image is stored on your computer.
2. Click on the image file to high light it.
3. Right click, then select "EDIT"
4. Click "RESIZE" in the upper left corner of the screen
5. Click on "PIXELS"
6. Make sure that "MAINTAIN ASPECT RATIO" is checked.
7. Retype "725" in "Horizontal" field.
8. Click "OK"
9. Save image, if desired. I put them in parallel folders with “resized” somewhere in the description..

It will now be resized and will show fully and properly on the forum, using standard Windows software.

And here is a link to a map of Spider owner’s locations. Many forum members have listed their locations.

(Don't worry RRoller, we'll get your back during your moving season. You gonna have to nominate one of us to welcome these nice new Fiat folks to the forum until you settle down.)

Hello Scubachris, welcome to the forum. You may want to familiarize yourself with this good write-up on the Spider. Although it's a buyer's guide it lists some very useful facts that you need to know.
My top recommendations is to make sure all the rubber be updated if it already hasn't. I don't mean tires, more like timing belt, flex disk at the tranny output, coolant, fuel supply, return & vapor lines.
Of course, anything safety such as brakes is top priority before anything.
Happy motoring!

Thanks y'all. Should there be any books that I order? Keep in mind that I also like to spend my money on vinyl and fancy scotch so I don't know if Guy Croft's book will make it.
