New Fiat Spider owner in Michigan

Post by mrspeed »

Hi there! I just bought a 1975 Fiat Spider a couple weeks ago for the summer, and am looking forward to enjoying the summer to its fullest potential.

Here's the car right when I first bought it. In the first couple weeks, I've already completed 6 "projects" which I can post as well if anyone is interested in seeing them :D

Welcome! Looks like you found one in great shape! What have you done so far to it? Also, there are Fiat clubs in Western Michigan and in the Detroit area with a number of Spider and 500 owners. On what side of the mitten are you ?

Thanks! It's in pretty good shape and was a good deal. I'm on the east side of the state, so would definitely be interested in joining the Detroit club.

The car runs great, so everything I've done so far is purely cosmetic, and all pretty small "projects" (hence the quotes):

1. Replaced the chrome trim on the passenger side door panel (just had to remove the door panel to install).

2. Installed new sun visor feet and new visors (car was missing these when bought).

3. Short-throw shifter and new shift knob.

4. New chrome dash center trim (old one was in pretty bad shape). Funny thing is, this was the most involved, time-consuming part to replace so far, because I couldn't get it to fit into place in order to screw the trim around the knobs down tight without removing the glove box liner, lower radio console, and instrument cluster. Then getting the glove box liner back in with all the clips inside the dash was a huge pain.

5. Convertible top cover (not really a modification, just a new thing bought and added).

6. New, better radio head unit with bluetooth connectivity, and controls for smart phones built in. Thankfully, most of the work for this was already done as the previous owner had already mounted and wired in an aftermarket radio with a power amp in the trunk and 4 nice speakers. So all I had to do was remove the old radio and re-wire to the new head unit's harness.

My next plans are:

7. Wind deflector behind the seats.

8. New driver's side map pocket (missing when bought).

9. New chrome exterior rearview mirrors.

10. New matching wood for the dash and center console.

11. Old-style flush chrome bumpers front and rear.
