Just took delivery of my new 82' Spider.
First the good: very surprised how stable the car feels with new front upper and lower bushings and front and rear shocks.
There was a new gas tank and fuel pump installed along with new brakes...The car braked even and I was very happy with the drive performance. A couple thousand in parts in last year. Transmission seems fine, the car did not pop out of 3rd and 4th gear so far.
The not so good: The yellow paint is not original and is only 10 ft acceptable. The previous owner felt like it was done well...Oh well.
Idling at 2,000 rpm's despite driving well. I have read threads that it could be the AFM flap or to have fuel injectors professionally cleaned. Not even close to the proper 750 range, will have this looked into.
There is a manual toggle for fan and that works well, temp never hit 190c despite idling too high. Front and rear seats are surprisingly good but I will be replacing the carpet set, the vinyl console and steam cleaning engine bay for starters. Will also replace whichever hoses need to be replaced.
The advice and content on this site has been fantastic, thank you.
Regards, Matt

HI Matt,
Join our party. http://www.njfiats.org/
Our monthly breakfast is this Sunday morning at Mastories in Bordentown. Probably a bit of a ride for you, but we get guys coming in from NY and PA from time to time, and a regular from Jersey City. What town are you in?
There's a bunch of us so come and join the fun.
Good luck with your new Spider.

Matt,
Congratulations! Where are you located? I'm in Chatham.
Do you have Brad Artigue's manual?
The high idle could be from any number of causes.
There are a lot of folks here who will say they gave up trying to attain 750.
Don't worry about fuel injectors yet.
First thing I would check is the idle speed screw. I assume it's screwed all the way in? Have you checked the o-ring? Then look for cracks in the big air hose and go from there. In my case, replacing a bad idle screw o-ring and a bad hose clamp where the big air hose meets the AFM made a world of difference.
