1984 headlight wire diagram

Post by spider2081 »

A friend has a 1984 pina and the high beam lights work in flash only. Low beams stay on in both hi and low position of the column HI/lo switch. Pulling the lever back toward the steering wheel and both hi beams light while lever is held back. I hear relays click near glove box but would like a wire diagram if anyone can help. Thanks

FWIW the column switches on those cars are a common failure item, there is a good chance that the fault is in the column switch.

Thanks I am pretty sure the column switch did fail. There is a toggle by pass switch installed in the car, lo beams and parking lights work with the back up switch but the Hi beams do not work except in flash mode. Which makes me think the relays are good and additional thought is needed with bypassing the column switches.

Are new stock switches obtainable???

New switches are available, but they look different than the original:

They do not have the rocker switch and come with the upper steering column cover that does not have a hole for the rocker switch.

Thanks, I will show this to my friend. I know he would like to keep the car as original as possible but if new is not the same as original he may choose not to. I appreciate the info. There is so much to learn about these cars.

I am tempted to try and disassemble the bad switch and see if I can repair it. Never having seen one before I am not confident enough to try that on someone else's car.
