Starts up fine but going nowhere

I need some help , have a 82 spider that starts up fine but when put in gear it feels as if the fuel is not getting to the motor , starts to sputter and eventually shuts down . I have replaced the fuel filter 2 months ago and spent the whole day yesterday trying to figure out. If someone can help me in the right direction before I bring her to my mechanic it would be appreciated..

Peter,
I would suggest ( if it's a F.I. car ) to check the airhoses etc for air leaks, also if you bring the car up to 3000-3500 revs and try to launch it in 1st gear, does it get off the mark ?

My X was doing that when it had a vacuum leak. You may want to pull the plugs to see what they look like. Mine were carboned up from too much fuel due to the leak.

Adrian, I did try that with the throttle floored it just shuts down

does the air flow meter flap move without sticking? Have you checked fuel pressure? How old is the gas in the tank? If it's been sitting for any length of time the injectors may be varnished and not flowing enough fuel
