while I locate the fuse info, here is evidence of an over heated connector at the ignition switch.
added note. I've added 2 things to this electrical system a year ago.
An electric fuel pump, mounted in trunk and powered directly off the coil via a fused line.
And a small mechless Alpine stereo, which I plugged into an available wire connector in the dash that tested for power on with the key on. That also has an inline fuse and I never had a problem with it last year, when the car was on the road.
The overheated connector in the picture was connected in the middle of the cluster on back of the ignition switch and looks to be connected to both the: light blue/red and light blue/white wires

Jay, the one you listed is for 79 and on. There are three different configurations in the service manual 75-76, 77-78, and 79 and later. Unfortunately I bought he service manual when we had a 78. Now that we have a 71 I have to rely entirely on Brad Artiques diagram and a multimeter. Such FUN! Anyhow, the ones I posted earlier are for the 77-78 year. Not to say that Fiat didn't mix and match as they shifted years and ran out of parts. Our 78 had 79 doors and rear end. Go figure.
Tim, you will have to determine which box you have based on year and wire configuration. I have 78 diagrams I can email if you need them.

Checked Brad's schematics and was able to figure out that the letters lay out in order left to right for 1978:

So that gives me what I need to find the amps for each.

spoke too soon. those do appear to be the correct letters and order- I think.
But I still need the exact amperage of each slot- I now get what they are feeding given the diagrams, but still have not found what amp fuse goes where.
Any help is appreciated.

(i'm anal and from time to time i feel around on connector C31 while i drive).
You know you own a Fiat when...
A replacement ignition switch and installation of relayed headlights cured the problem.
You may looking at previous evidence of heated up wires. Your wiring kit Installation for your headlights and brown wire fix may have resolved that issue.

the order is right to left?
kinda makes sense now that I think about it.
the upside of the fuses taking me so long is that while waiting I've now replaced all the connectors and grounds for the tail lights, including removing a suspicious 2 foot wire that was loosely spliced into the left tail light with other end wandering around the spare tire area, possibly grounding out.
I had been avoiding that area since the wires looked so old and tired I feared a can of worms I wasn't prepared for.
good to get that cleaned up.

You will have to look at the fuse holder for the numbers/letters to ge the order correct. Crawl under with a flashlight and take a peak. They are raised characters near where the wires plug in.

Been on my back with a headlamp illuminating this for a few days now. Nothing in the visible area. I will take it off today in an effort to see the back where the wires connect.

careful pulling the fuse box out, it is easy to dislodge a loose spade connector. at the same time, this is a great time to clean and check all the connections.

Agree 100% with Azruss, While you are there clean up all the connections and make sure connections are all snug on each fuse. I clean the grounds and fuse box as well as other connections every couple years. Current spider has significantly
less electrical issues than the ones from the 80's and 90's because of connection maintenance.
