AFM gate/ door sticks

Hi FiatSpider.com members,

I am a new member, bought a 1984 spider/azzurra a few months ago. It was a neighbors that was well kept in garage, no rust, original paint, good leather ... a beautiful black spider but didnt run. I found this great site by diagnosing and fixing problems on google, and each time google led me to this site for answers. I can't thank each of you enough as you helped me fix an intermittent dying problem where car would just die randomly. It was the ignition switch.

I now have a new problem, occasionally the car dies on road after gunning it, only to find the AFM gate or door has stuck open. At least it looks open. I take AFM off, stick my finger in to push on the gate, and it springs back into position. Then the car runs great until the gate locks up again.

Is there a way to fix the sticking gate issue without buying a new AFM?

Apologize for post now ... rookie member sorry. After figuring out how to better search on site I found numerous resources on AFM sticking. If you are reading this and want to get good results, enter "AFM sticks" in advanced search. Took apart and have confirmed the AFM gate was bent, car has 140k miles. Engine was rebuilt but fuel injection is untouched. Anyhow I will be sending it out to a company who rebuilds to new, and was recommended by members.
