fuse amp locations on a 78

Post by timspider »

I've read through a few threads on fuses here. I'm looking for something simple to start and wasn't able to find it elsewhere.
I just want to confirm exactly which amp fuses go where in this fuse holder. My 2 manuals have conflicting info, some google searches yielded nothing, I suspect it starts with 8amp fuses on the left and all the way across until the last two, which are a 16amp and a 25amp.
I do not have the cover for this and there aren't any markings I can see with the letters that I'm seeing people reference here.
For obvious reasons, I need to get this detail right.
any help appreciated.

I found an image via google. Not positive that this is right, but this feels like a better guess.
From left, 16,16,16,16, 25, 8,8,8,8,8
but then, the image I have, which is for a 78, shows another slot for an 8amp fuse, so 11 total slots, not 10 like mine.
Any ideas on this?
thank you

Is it 9,1 0 or 12 Fuses?

My manual has:

10 fuses in total for a 74, 75-76

L I H G F E D C B A
8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 25

9 for a 77-78

L H G F E D C B A
25 16 8 8 8 8 8 8

12 for 79 -82 model

N M L I H G F E D C B A
16 16 16 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8

All are from left too right.

Hope it helps

fuse amp locations on a 78- need wiring expert

Post by timspider »

thanks for the help. thought I had it, but now not sure. Mine is an early 78 with mostly old stuff with regard to anything that changed out in 78, so not sure now how my 10 fuse holder configures. I had a 25 in there before me so it's one of the configs with a 25amp fuse.
Now not sure this is stock or if any info I have is accurate. Wondering why I bought this manual. real pos.
I need a Fiat wiring person in western michigan- preferably near grand rapids.

update, yes, there is a stamp with the letter designations on the back of the fuse box, per the help I got here. It's the tiniest font I've ever seen and it's right under the lip in the back making it impossible to see with anything except a mirror and a well placed flashlight, and if you are like me, some kind of magnification help.
here's what I got:
L I H G F E D C B A

so it looks like the one from 75-76?
I'm pretty sure there was a 25 in the A before, so guessing the rest fills our with 8's, as shown above.
that's still a guess, but it's becoming a hypothesis.

The shop manual I have shows 10 fuses on both the 75-76 and the 77-78.

For the 77-78 they are:

A - 8 amps
B - 8
C - 8
D - 8
E - 8
F - 8
G - 8
H - 8
I - 16
L - 25

It's easy to tell if you have the 75-76 or 77-78 if your horns work. The horns are on fuse A on the 75-76 and on fuse I on the 77-78.

Was able to copy the fuse page from the shop manual. Hopefully this will help with what's connected to each fuse.
