And the mystery continues  Got home, she wouldn't start. Not even a click, yet lights, stereo, horn etc all work fine. Checked the battery and it had 12.5V Tried again annnnnnnnnd she started perfect :? Let her idle to temp. Battery had 14.8V with everything on. Took her for a quick spin, start and stop and restart zero issues. Went to soccer, parked for an hour, started right up. Going to try one more time before bed and tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Good that your ignition issue seems resolved.
Good that your starter is engaging.
Not good that a fix wasn't established between the point of no start and start.
Not good that a diagnosis cannot be made while the symptom is inexistent.
You need to get this sorted before a major roadtrip otherwise you will become a deranged traveller.
Like myself.
Two deranged travellers = one helluuuuuuuva journey.
Spider2081's wiring info may shed some light. If it were me i'd be under there on my back following the wiring from the starter while cleaning/restoring any connector you encounter. Process of elinination before you decide the need to start changing solenoid/starter.
It will be one more area on your car that is sorted.
You will feel better about it once its done.

I know this sounds dumb but are your terminals clean and tight on your battery? Perhaps you inadvertently nudged a loose battery clamp, cable, or battery box fastener when you tested for your 12.5 volts. Do the check with a wrench, not your hands. Sometimes we disregard the most obvious bcs we assume it's in order.

While attempting to start, do all the other electrical goodies stay on? If not, there may be an internal problem with the battery. I am concerned about the 15.8V reading you got - this is too high, and if it has been this way for a while, I wonder if it has damaged the battery, perhaps causing an intermittent problem. Anyway, if you have a spare battery, you might try swapping it with the current battery.

Since Fiona is sick, you take a day off under the "Care and nurturing of an ill family member" clause.
Intermittent problems can be a bitch.

Cool. We'll touch base on the weekend. Let me know if my battery, coil, wires, whatever would help to bring. Unless of course I drive my spider over! Exhaust finally done. Alignment and safety on Friday morning. Keep your fingers crossed!

I may have misquoted  Of course Fiona started right up. Battery while running tonight was 14.6V Tested everything and no surprises. Put on a new alternator belt, tightened it up,also put in my new charcoal canister as my old one was missing the cap  I also noticed that one of my silicone hoses had a crack in it  so I fixed it. Followed Brad Artigue's idle screw setting and (might just be in my head) now she seems to just be smoother and accelerates better. Took her for a good spin with zero issues. Idles perfectly at 900 rpms  Still going to get under her this weekend to double check 8)

So I might as well go ahead and jinx myself   Fiona has been awesome. Took her out for a few hours yesterday with zero issues. Going to stop worrying for nothing, have new parts on the way just in case

On to the next project to get ready for FFO2015 8)

Awesome that Fiona is feeling awesome! For the next 4 weeks jinxing is against the law. You & I, We'll have no part of that

Been getting ready myself. As several members are discussing electrical issues in recent days, i decided myself to crawl under there and address tidying up the transmission to floorpan ground and those starter bullet connectors. The other day i addressed the ground pods on the fenders and replaced a few terminals.

I also torqued the critical xmember nuts (upper control arms were loose as well as lower arm to x member nuts, both sides). I guess the experts dont joke around when they say check them every oil change.

I've been addressing many wear components since last summer. I can say that i'm ready for FFO 2015! Can't wait now. Let's do this!

Round 2

Image

so our ICCO group is heading out this morning on the way to the Montreal Fiat Breakout when (of course) within 2 blocks Fiona starts to sputter, lose power and (1st time ever) backfire     :x I got her home under her own power *whew Replaced coil, rotor, cap already had module and pick up. Tach was jumpy, now resolved but she still seems sluggish and bogs out every now and then. Going to take her out for a real test drive tonight and see what happens. All help and advice welcome.

Started her up, got onto the highway, brought her up to 120 km/h 74.56 mph, maintained speed, down shifted on the off ramps, gave her hell on the on ramps, zero issues during the entire test. Going to do more tomorrow as we seem to be having trust issues
