I've been reading numerous threads on the forum about replacing the original points system in my car. What I would I would like to know is what people think is the most reliable replacement for this system and how much replacement should cost?
My mechanic is focused on a used Magneti Marelli, but I'd like to hear from people who are using different systems
Thanks!
PS - My car is going to be driven infrequently, no track use, and rarely at highway speeds.

The OE Marelli system is very reliable, and there is always something good to say about allowing the manufacturer to get the design sorted out ... so that you don't have to.
I have a Pertronix module installed in the conventional mechanical distributor. Not as high-performing as the Marelli or the aftermarket systems you'll see mentioned on this forum, but a lot less money. Over 25k without a single issue.

If the car is to be driven infrequently, no track use, rarely at highway speeds, then why not just maintain the points? They are perfectly reliable when maintained. If that won't do it then get a Marelliplex, you can buy them from C. Obert and Co for about $700 with the original coil pack.
