Dash molding
Dash molding
Anybody know if there is a piece of molding that fills the gap between the leading edge of the dash board and the base of the windshield on a 80 vintage spider 2000?

Re: Dash molding
There is a gasket between the windshield and the dashboard (edge furthest from the occupants, closest to front of windshield ).
There are also end caps/molding on the passenger and drivers side ends of the dashboard, filling the gap near the doors where the curved part of the windshield and dash (facing the occupants) meet.

Re: Dash molding
When I pulled my dash and windshield I did not have a gasket on the forward edge of the dash. My dash butted up against the lower windshield gasket It was a secure fit. I don't know if mine had previously been removed but I doubt it, my old dash has no marks from having a gasket. I do have the end caps if you need them as I put in a replica dash.

My '82 had a piece of rubber trim, ( gasket is probably the wrong term). The lip of the trim sits on top that forward top edge of the dash across the full width.Ptoneill wrote:When I pulled my dash and windshield I did not have a gasket on the forward edge of the dash.

Re: Dash molding
I believe all years have that rubber trim piece that is supposed to lip over the dash. It is soft rubber and droops down. So it looks like it's part of the windhield seal. It's about 1/4-3/8 in width and is a PITA to lip over a new dash. I used a coat hanger bent like an ell to hook under it and pull it back over the top of the new dash. It had slipped off the old dash and looked like the dash just butted up to the windshield. They do not. You have to tentatively tighten the dash close to final install location, lip the trim over the top and then pushe the das that last 1/8 of an inch in toward the windshield and tighten. If the dash is too loose, trying to pull the rubber lip up will make the dash slide back. Ask me how I know.....

Re: Dash molding
Thanks, good info here. Now all I have to do is find it!
Re-installing the windshield on this thing is a pain. The lower chrome trim doesn't seem to fit right and I can't get the bottom to seal correctly.

Just a note, as you get everything in place, the height on the cowl is adjustable which can eliminate any gap between the top of it and the bottom of the windshield.
