79 Spider with a few issues..

Post by aevansgatech »

Hey guys, trying to figure out a few things before attempting to start up the engine. I have the wiring diagrams, but it's still a bit unclear. Hopefully someone can guide me on these loose connections

This might be the power antenna factory option? If I don't have one, i'll leave it unused?

There's 2 of these hanging down. One on each side of the dash.. Radio FM/AM antennas??

These are labeled interior lighting from previous owner. Looks like 2 to a missing lightbulb and 2 to the dimmer switch. Are they safe to leave unplugged?

Last but not least this 8-pin connector looks good, just missing the red cap the others have. Is it OK to leave it like that?

Any advice would be great!

I think the second photo looks like speaker wire. For the others you need to note the color of the wires going to the connector and look for it on the wiring diagram. Then you can figure out what it goes to. If you need help let us know, but we need all of the wires/colors going to the connector and what part of the car you are in... Under the dash, behind the dash/which side, behind the center console etc.

+1 on second picture being speaker wires.

If you need wiring diagrams, they are posted courtesy of Brad Artigue at: http://www.artigue.com/fiat/

Thanks guys!

So if the silver/copper wires are speaker wire, can I just cap it off? I'm not worried about having speakers or radio in there.

The 6-pin connector has Violet, Gray, Brown, Gray/Black, Violet/Black, and Two White/Blacks coming from one pin. The diagram shows the radio connector being almost the same colors with a couple minor differences. The White/Black then goes to a missing cigarette lighter. Ill leave these disconnected for now.

The 8-pin connector with no cap is puzzling me. I dont see those color combinations in the diagrams. It goes (in order) Tan, Blue, Green, Pink, White, Red, Red/Black, Black. Located right under the glove box

Here is some wiring from my 80 FI. I think you top picture is for the radio and antenna, You should have 3 wires for the interior light in the upper console. As others have said, I agree on the speaker wires. You should be okay leaving connectors unplugged. The wiring on these cars are modular and little if any have feedback loops
