Messed up fuse box

Post by littleorange124 »

I just got a 1981 fiat spider and there are a couple fuses bridged and the radiator fan will not turn on and the car dies until it will finally warm up and then run roughly could this be related to the fuses?

Probably no to all...... You will need to sort out one problem at a time.

Suggest you get a wire diagram from artigue.com. Then remove the bridged fuses and work thru each circuit.circuits are fused or breakered to prevent fires, enough said!
The radiator fan is a heavy amp circuit. It is hot all the time. The switch, located in the radiator, grounds the circuit. Disconnect the fan plug and jump it to see if it works. Then test the circuit, grounds, and switch.

If fuses blow, then you need to find the short. These cars are pretty simple electrically.

Many threads here regarding FI, cold start valves, air leaks, auxiliary air valves, etc. Google info on Bosch L-jetronic fuel injection.

Buy a multi-meter and get to work:-)

For my 1981 Fuse A or 1 is closest to the steering column. Fuse 11 and 12 are for electric windows which most of our cars do not have. Some folks keep spare fuses in those positions if their cars do not have electric windows. Fuse 10, a 16 amp fuse, has voltage on it all the time and is the fuse for the horn relay and the radiator cooling fan. If it is blowing the usual cause is one of the horns is shorted.
