Autoricambi alternator that almost fits

The enemy of good is better. All was going well till I decided to upgrade the alternator in my 1980 fiat spider 2000. I thought brighter lights etc. Taking out the old alternator was not too bad. Couldnt move the nut holding the tensioning bar in place( even with PB and a very long wrench) but I moved the gas vapor filter and delivered it.With similiar gyrations I got the new one in place but after putting the lower bolt through, the upper hole in the alternator is now a few mm to high for the slot in the tensioning bar. I vaguely remember someone mentioning bending it. How does a mere mortal do that? Are there any alternatives?

we use an offset bushing in the lower alternator mount, I would assume AR does also

is it possible to make a tapered shim to go between the upper bracket and the block?

AR instructions said to 'modify' the bracket.

I just put the upper bracket in a vice then a couple taps with a 3# hammer got it lined up with the new radius. Thus modified.
