Everything just died?

Post by 70spider »

Hello,
Crazy thing just occurred with Pesto. My wife and I were on our anniversary (#24) date and almost home when at the 4-way of the major highway here the car went dead. I mean dead, the lights, everything electrical. She knew the drill I hop out she assumes the driver position and I push us to safety. However as soon as I start to push the electrics come back on. I then get behind the wheel and he starts right up and we drove him back home without any issues. I am beginning to think my little Pesto has an "Stephen King" sense of humor  . But seriously what could have caused this?

The battery connections are good, recently installed new terminal ends. My only exlanation may be the ignition switch. For those of you that had an ignition switch go bad, does what happened sound familiar?

Sounds familiar but mine was from the yellow wire on the right fender under the hood grounding out for a moment or two. It would put out all things electric without blowing a fuse. It was more prone to happen on a bumpy road or a hard left turn and took a while to track down.

I recently spent time with a Spider doing silly stuff like this. Check that your new terminal ends aren't painted on the inside. If so, scrape them to clean metal.

Definitely sounds more like battery connection issue.

Next time it dies on you, leave the car in gear and jiggle the ignition key. Careful not to turn the key past Off and in to Lock, or you won't be able to steer.

Mine did that when i was driving it. Just buzzing along and suddenly it got quiet. Had it towed back home. It was the ignition control module inside the distributor. Twenty bucks, ten minutes. I do not know if anything else was working or not. It was daytime and no lites were on. Good luck.

I agree for everything to quit it sounds like battery/starter connections. Don't forget the engine ground on the bell housing near the starter. Also make sure the ground cable for the battery is making a good connection to the chassis.
