IMPORTANT!!! September 26, 2015
Hey folks, Evan here.
I am taking our site through a LONG overdue overhaul. This morning (Saturday 9/26/15) I successfully upgraded the core software (phpBB) to the most current version. This was way overdue and the reasons are numerous: 1- It's scary! 2- I wanted to make sure all of the other server software was compatible and 3- It takes a lot of time and concentration to do it right and I just had to bite the bullet and get to it.
The latest version of software will offer many improvements for us, not the least of which is a mobile-friendly responsive design. I'll be exploring possible new features as well over the next few weeks. The other thing you will immediately notice is the default phpBB "skin" or style. I'll be working on customizing that too. Another big thing - I know most of you regular users have the forum bookmarked, bypassing the actual home page of FiatSpider.com. You will need to update your bookmarks for this new installation.
Hang in there with me while I work to make this forum the best it can be. I want to extend a huge thank you to all of you that have donated to keep this site going over the years. That donate button is still works and is on the home page! I will get it back into the main forum header as soon as I can complete the new styling.
Thanks again everyone!

Re: IMPORTANT!!! September 26, 2015
Thank YOU, Evan.
I imagine I was one of many who missed this message originally and completely FREAKED OUT when clicking on their usual bookmarks returned HTML gobbledegook and an apparently non-existent Fiatspider.com. I'm calm now.
The new site does indeed work well on my iPhone. So far, so good!

Re: IMPORTANT!!! September 26, 2015
I too find it to be a vast improvement on mobile.. I'm still surprised that there is no provision to just upload photos without hosting them elsewhere. Or is this feature just disabled.. Being a web developer myself I certainly understand the overhead for photos. At any rate Evan I certainly appreciate you keeping this alive all these years.
Thanks
Rob

Re: IMPORTANT!!! September 26, 2015
Thanks again for all you do to keep the site going....I remember the dark days before you resurrected fiatspider.com!
Site looks good, but my experience has been iffy with it on Safari w/iOS 9.
It seems the pages load slow and frequently hang, I have to hit the X then hit refresh and the page will then reload quickly as expected.
I tried it on another IPad with iOS 8 and the site works without issues, so I am not sure if it's the IOS 9 or something else with that iPad of mine, but thought I would mention it.

What does not yet work are the links to old posts. If you want to reference one of these, you must manually change the address. Replace the
xxxxxx/f08/xxxxxx with xxxxxx/f15/xxxxxx
Maybe Evan can automate this.

Re: IMPORTANT!!! September 26, 2015
Should be doable with a rewrite rule ... the f08/f15 is silly anyway ... the version should already have masked by a rule in the first place.baltobernie wrote:What does not yet work are the links to old posts. If you want to reference one of these, you must manually change the address. Replace the

Re: IMPORTANT!!! September 26, 2015
I have no idea what type of server the site is run on (never investigated it, I could probably figure it out), but I sent directions to the admin on how to do symlinks on Linux. That would fix the problem with minimal work.
