Wipers and washer power
I got my new windshield in yesterday (went well). I now installed my cowl (but left it up some to make sure electrical works fine to wipers). Unfortunately a no go. I thought before I tore this apart the wipers worked (never drove car at that point). The wipers don't work and the fuse is good (blinkers work on same fuse). I'll have to check grounds. But, I don't know how to activate my washer, which I don't know if it ever worked. Mine is an 80 but has a bag (must've been converted). Is there a switch to activate the washer?

Re: Wipers and washer power
The Fuse for the wiper motor should be Fuse "B" the second fuse outboard of the steering column. My diagram shows the heater fan on the same fuse. The blinkers on my print are Fuse "A". The closest fuse to the steering column.
The operate the washer pump pull back on the wiper Off, delay, on lever.

Re: Wipers and washer power
Ok. Fuse is good. Never drove this car. But, I believe the wiper switch is the one on the left of the column with the turn signal switch. Correct? If I move that handle (forward or aft, I can't remember) the high beams go on as well as the dash light for high beam until it is released. Where is the actual high beam switch?
Not sure what each wiper motor connection is for (red, white and black). I assume power, wipe delay and speed? I have power going into on the red with key on and the same with the white. Nothing on the black. I may have a ground issue in the red. If I check the other side of that plug with power and ground it I get nothing.

Ok, I found an old post with all the schematic color of wires and what they do and how to test. I will try to see what I find out with my test light for power and grounds (or lack of).

The 2 switch bats on the same side of the steering column are: closest to steering wheel, turn signal control. Longer one below it is the headlight hi/lo beam switch. The switch bat on the other side all by itself is the wiper switch. Up is off middle is delay and down is wipers continous speed.

Re: Wipers and washer power
I looked at an old post and maybe some (or all) of my wiper issues are in the wiper motor itself. This car as well as the wiper motor area are clean and rust free. But, maybe I need to take the motor apart and clean and lube. I did lube all the linkages while I had the cowl assembly out. I have power to all three incoming leads. My black ground was not grounding. I jumped that and my motor runs and rotates the wipers hubs. But, only on continuous mode. They don't park, delay, or change speeds. Any help otherwise would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Wipers and washer power
Not much help here yet. So. I disassembled my wiper motor and all looked pretty good inside. Except, the ground wire didn't look like it was connected real solid, so I soldered it better to connection inside. I scuffed the brushes and contacts with emery cloth. I read a post about a plastic cam that parks the wipers. I didn't see any broken piece inside, nor do I see a plastic cam. Is that inside the end where the electrical enters? I thought it would be where the contacts (look like distributer points) would open and close with the use of a cam (much like a dist. with points work). Anyone?

Re: Wipers and washer power
Here is a photo of the plastic gear the center is the cam area that activates the park and the delay timer.
Here is the switch activated by the cam in the above photo
Power from fuse B is supplied to the motor assembly by the blue/black wire. This has power as long as the ignition switch is in the "start or run" position and is voltage so the wipers can run to the park position.
Power from the wiper on-delay-continuous switch on the steering column is a gray/black wire that feeds the fast-slow switch in the center of the dash. At the wiper motor the light blue wire is "slow" and the "gray" wire is fast.
There is a delay timer under the glove box. It is a set timer circuit. The circuit supplies a short duration pulse of voltage at a repetitious period of time. When the delay is selected by the column switch. The wiper motor makes one sweep and parks. The delay timer kicks the wiper s off of park and they make one more sweep. This continues as long as "delay" is selected. The timer has one "time" between pulses. The speed switch determines how fast the wiper motor makes it sweeps between parks.
Hope this helps a little

Re: Wipers and washer power
My plastic cam gear is still in place, but the flat metal for the points is broke off. Maybe I'll say heck with it and park the wipers as I turn them off. The whole wiper mechanism was very tight. I wd40 lubed the tube where the wipers attach and then put some light oil in them. Work very freely now. The rest of the arms, I did previously lube with white grease, so those should be good. As far as the two speed just running the motor, it seems to make very little if any difference. I have 12.98 volts coming into the motor.

Re: Wipers and washer power
Its not as common for the switch to break as the nylon gear to crack. You might post in "parts wanted" that you need the black cap with the switch. Maybe someone with a broken gear will give you the part.

That's a good thought. Thanks.
