Grinding shifting into second gear

1981 Spider.
All other gears shift smoothly, but I always seem to grind the gears going into second. I seem to remember this problem from another Spider I had a long time ago. Is this just "normal" Fiat behaviour?

Second gear synchro seems to be the first to wear out in these cars. No magic bullet for this problem, I'm afraid. Double-clutch until the budget allows for a tranny rebuild.

Or just start off in second if you don't want to scare away the tourists
