My friend and I recently fixed the shifter on my '78 Spider. We've driven it around a few miles (probably ten miles total, split fairly equally between two days) and noticed that the car seems inclined to overheat if it's just being driven around town. I took it to the car wash and noticed that the temperature gauge showed probably 220, and it kept getting nearer and nearer to the red. Also, the car was idling at about 2,000 RPMs at the car wash. Yesterday, I drove it around a bit more, and it was idling at 2,500-2,800, which is incredibly high.
Are these problems related? What do I need to do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
High Idle and Overheating
Re: High Idle and Overheating
they probably are related; the cooling fan doesn't pull enough air to cool the motor at 2k rpm. Make sure the choke is opening completely and that the secondaries are closed. Then you could check the idle speed screw. Make sure the cooling fan is cycling; it should come on at 195
