temperature to low

Post by stephanspider2000 »

hello all
I have a weird problem
The spider was running fine, but with nice weather (25+degrees celcius) it was getting a bit hot when i was at the traffic lights, (between 190 and 260 F).So i checked the radiator and saw that it wasn´t full and the expansion tank was at min.
I put a little coolant in the radiator till it was full (about 3/4 litre), and since then the temp gauge wil not show more than
halfway 120 and 190 F . The lower thermostat tube is getting warm.
anyone has a clue

That's where all my Fiats run. Are you telling me all of mine are broke? :(
It takes some time to let my engine run at idle for the temp to climb enough for the fan to come on, but maybe you should do that to make sure everything is in working order. The external t-stat partially opens around 170 degrees, letting a bit of water from the lower hose into the system. By 185-190 degrees it should be fully open. You can check this by feeling the lower hose at these intervals when the gauge reaches these points or submerging the t-stat in a pot on the stove and use a candy thermometer to see when it opens.
