Magneti Marelli starter questions

Post by philoutch »

Hi Guys,

I'd like to rebuild my Magneti Marelli starter on my 1975 1.8 CS1 US but :

1 - I don't know the model, there is no reference number on it
2 - I don't know where to find rebuild kit

Any hints ?

Here the solenoid and starter drive both cost about $35 each while the brushes and bearings cost about $5 to $10 each making it so the cost of rebuilding it yourself as long as it does not need to be rewound or have the armature replaced would be around $100 while a factory rebuilt from a local Oreily or Advance Auto Parts store is just $49.99 to $54.99. Have you scoped out what the major auto parts stores in your area can provide?

Lifetime Warranty - $49.99:

Another option is to find a small local shop that rebuilds starter and alternators to see if they can provide you with parts. I just had the alternator go out on mine which uses a more rare Hitachi Diesel Alternator and was able to purchase the parts from a local Auto Electric Shop more quickly than through the big chain stores. I had both my vehicles break down at the same time and the other required an even harder to get special $170 tool that nobody had locally for replacing the $4 seal that had been destroyed by a defective belt. It was cheaper to pay the rebuilder for same day service then to get a rental car.

It appears that Fiat Allis has a presence in France. If you have an agricultural machinery dealer nearby, they can probably steer you toward their source for starter/alternator service. Marellli is a supplier to ag equipment, too.
